Joining again today with the #FiveMinuteFriday group of Writers, where we write on a one word prompt for 5 minutes flat. This week’s prompt is: Adjust.

I don’t know about you, but I take a while to adjust to new things, new ideas, new ways of thinking etc. I like time to ponder, time to think things through, time to take a leap from one idea to another, time to make adjustments.

But at present there is no time, things are happening too fast, I can’t keep up, I felt as if I was in a bit of an overload situation this week and that then makes me feel panicky. There has been no time to adjust from one way of living to another, no time to adjust from one way of working to another, no time to adjust from one way of doing church to another! It is a bit like being on the proverbial wheel – stop I want to get off! It is all happening too fast for me!

So what can we do? What is God saying to me in the midst of this daily changing world?

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;

    I will be exalted among the nations,

    I will be exalted in the earth.”

Psalm 46:10

Be still. Calm yourself. Life your eyes heavenward. Be still and know that I am God.

Be still – God is in control.

Be still – Know that He is God, trust it believe it, declare it.

In the midst of the chaos, in the midst of the change, in the midst of making those quick and necessary adjustments – Be still. Be still and know. Be still and know that He is God. Be still and know that He is God and that He will be exalted among the nations. Be still and know that He is God and that He will be exalted among the nations and exalted on the earth. Be still.

  1. I agree, it’s all been happening so quickly and just when I’ve thought I’ve adjusted to something, another thing changes! Psalm 46 is so comforting though – it is definitely the Bible passage I’ve heard referred to the most this week in several different contexts so I think it’s one we’re all holding onto! xx

  2. Fiona, I so agree with you. I also find it difficult to make quick changes. But adjust we must. As we still our souls before the Lord, He is helping us all to remember He is our God, mighty to help. Stay safe and may He bless you today with more of Himself!

  3. In the midst of chaos,
    from the batt’ring storm
    I step into God’s naos,
    and suddenly, I’m warm.
    The altar-candles have been lit
    by larger Hands than mine,
    inviting me to stay a bit
    in the presence of Divine
    love that puts a silken cloak
    o’er my bowed shoulders;
    though, perhaps, my heart be broke
    there comes healing that is older
    than the earth, the sky and sea,
    and it’s offerred, just for me.

  4. I have caught myself (if I’m honest) thinking “I’m bored” over these days – I can only clean my junk drawer so many times!! – but God continues to give me this verse. I have so many opportunities to be still. Be still and learn. Be still and know. And I love that verse image you included. I hope you have a calm/peace-filled weekend ahead!!
