Joining up with the #FiveMinuteFriday team to write for 5 minutes on a one word prompt.  This week’s word is: Start

“Start as you mean to go on” is a saying I hear in my mother’s voice in my head.

But that is all very well isn’t it?  You start well, you are full of enthusiasm, you think you can do it, you may even have a plan of how to get it done, in the best way, in least amount of time, your goal is in sight.

But alas!  Trials come, unexpected obstacles which you hadn’t foreseen suddenly appear in your path.  It can be dark and danger seems to lurk round certain corners.  The air once so clear and bright now seems heavy and oppressive, it is any wonder your energy levels drop, your enthusiasm wains?

My bible focus verse for this week has this covered:

Philippians 3:12-14

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me…  But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead.  I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenwards in Christ Jesus.

So I press on.  I don’t know what lies round the corner, I  may loose the path a bit, I may get a bit distracted, but I press on.  I don’t look behind at what I once was, but I fix my eyes, I strain forward to catch a glimpse of that goal.

Onwards and upwards I strain forward to persevere and continue on what I have started, getting to know my Saviour, getting closer to heaven, and when energy and enthusiasm wains I fix my eyes on Jesus because He is the goal, He is the prize and He is worth it every time!
