Conclude

This is the last #Five Minute Friday post for 2020 and fittingly the prompt is: Conclude

Everyone agrees that this has been a strange year, a year like no other when our world has ground to a halt. Many have suffered financially, mentally, emotionally and physically, most will be glad to see the end of this year.

However the words which come to my mind at the end of this year are from Psalm 65, I will quote the Psalm as I think that is the best way to conclude the Year:

Praise awaits you, our God, in Zion;
    to you our vows will be fulfilled.
You who answer prayer,
    to you all people will come.
When we were overwhelmed by sins,
    you forgave our transgressions.
Blessed are those you choose
    and bring near to live in your courts!
We are filled with the good things of your house,
    of your holy temple.

You answer us with awesome and righteous deeds,
    God our Savior,
the hope of all the ends of the earth
    and of the farthest seas,
who formed the mountains by your power,
    having armed yourself with strength,

who stilled the roaring of the seas,
    the roaring of their waves,
    and the turmoil of the nations.
The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
    where morning dawns, where evening fades,
    you call forth songs of joy.

You care for the land and water it;
    you enrich it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water
    to provide the people with grain,
    for so you have ordained it.
10 You drench its furrows and level its ridges;
    you soften it with showers and bless its crops.
11 You crown the year with your bounty,
    and your carts overflow with abundance.
12 The grasslands of the wilderness overflow;
    the hills are clothed with gladness.
13 The meadows are covered with flocks
    and the valleys are mantled with grain;
    they shout for joy and sing.

God bless you all over the Christmas and New Year period, may we indeed know and walk in the Lord’s goodness.

  1. Thanks so much, Fiona, for this passage. It provides a much needed perspective check and reminds me to trust in God and to seek joy even amidst this trying year. I am visiting from FMF–I love your site!

  2. We praise Your name with lifted voice,
    with hearts to overflowing,
    even when we have no choice
    on where the world is going,
    for we know Your mighty deeds
    will overcome this earthly pain,
    and that You will meet our needs;
    after drought will come the rain
    that heals our sad and aching land,
    that makes the dells come green,
    and in this we will understand
    the wonders we have seen,
    the God who saves from every plight
    those who, in trial, will praise His might.
