Joining with the #Five Minute Friday Group of writers where we write for 5 minutes on a one word prompt. Today’s prompt is: People
I live in a rural, remote part of Scotland and don’t see a lot of people at the best of times, but especially not recently due to Lockdown with the Corona Virus. So when I hear figures of numbers of people who have died during the virus, I find it hard to get my head round such huge numbers, what does that even look like and how does that equate to individuals?
Then I think of the huge numbers of the redeemed standing before the throne:
After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number,
from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages,
standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice,
“Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
Revelation 7:9-10
Again such huge numbers, but what a joyful mix of people from every race, every tribe, a huge tapestry of colours of humans beings gathered from around the world. A huge symphony of voices raised together in Praise and Worship. Peoples, people, individuals whom God has loved, touched, chosen, called, redeemed, all joined together in Praise!
Peoples gathered together. Peoples joined together. Peoples praising together. Wow! cann’t get my head round that either! But I want to be there, I want to be part of that number, I want to join in that Praise, I want to be part of the People of God.
The numbers are staggering – and hard to wrap our head around…but how exciting (and comforting) to think of the multitude of redeemed that will gather in Heaven one day!! I hope you are staying healthy and well in your little corner of the world!! Enjoy your weekend ahead!

Fiona, I loved your post…but have a real problem with crowds, an the first quatrain kind of wrote itself. Seemed wrong to not finish, even though I’m not really up to it.
But on the other hand, NOT finishing the thing might have been merciful.
Or something.
As I think of Heaven’s throngs in praise,
I try to quell this thought, but can’t:
singing, with their arms upraised…
did they use deodorant?
Perhaps it is not needed there,
and we will have sweet-scented selves,
but if not, ’tis only fair
to find Right Guard on Heaven’s shelves.
Can’t imagine the saved’s breath be bad
(But multitudes? It makes one wince!);
nonetheless, might there be had
celestial tins of Altoid mints?
And if all feet are sandal-shod…
foot-powder please, merciful God?

Here in California, we have a lot of talk about “suspected” covid deaths. It’s hard to know about who really died from the disease, and who did not. Likewise, when we get to heaven, we will be surprised at who is there and who is not. May we be counted as one of the many.

I struggle to get my head around the numbers too. Let’s hope heaven is many more than we think and can imagine 😍 FMF #15
