Direction

I am joining today again with the Five Minute Friday group where we write for 5 minutes on a one word prompt. Today’s Word is: Direction

I think there can be a lot of pressure at this time, the start of a new year, to think that you have to know what direction you are taking or even be changing direction.

But often you start the year as you finished the last year, facing the same way without specific goals or knowledge of what the New Year will bring. And who of us does know what the year will bring? Circumstances change, situations arise halfway through the year which may cause us to pause, even turn around, or just face a different dirrection, but until that situation arises what are we to do?

God has told us what he requires of us:

He has told you, O man, what is good;

and what does the Lord require of you

but to do justice, and to love kindness,

and to walk humbly with your God?

micah 6:8

With that in mind, our face set towards God and our hearts focused then we walk on, one step at a time, one day at a time, one month at a time throughout the year. We walk in the light He has give us for that next step, and then the light for the next step. They may not be huge steps, they may not be hugely illuminated, but we walk on in that light. And when we look back at the year we see that indeed God has guided our steps in His ways.

  1. Always a blessing to look back and see that He indeed was leading – and all the paths that we traveled together the last 12 months. Makes the year ahead even more exciting!

  2. I am where praise and worship fade,
    where faithful dare not shout,
    in the devil’s blood-soaked glade
where all the lights go out.
I scarce recall the golden days
when the way ahead seemed so clear,
the tic-tac-toe of ties and stays
that brought the Lord so near.
But I will not lose hope nor heart,
    and hold faith in Unseen
whom I believe yet plays a part
    to dissolve this fever-dream.
Perhaps I cannot see His Face,
but I will not abandon Grace.

  3. Thank you for giving me something to cling to today, Micah 6:8. It’s Thursday, already and I just posted for Last week’s FMF. Even though we may struggle in the waiting, God is always on time with his direction. Thanks for the timely reminder.
